In UK, how do you become: 1) an accountant & 2) a chartered accountant? What is the difference between the 2?

If you have a degree in Accounting and Finance gained from an England university, what is the procedure from then onwards to become an accountant and a chartered accountant? Thank you.

I hate to put the ACCA down, but I think he wants to become a Chartered Accountant, (CA) not a Chartified accountant.(ACCA) (And you don't have to be Chartered to sign off company accounts)

An Accountant can prepare all accounts up to financial accounts. You do not require any qualifications to get to there, however they are advisable to gain recognition in the sector. To become a Chartered Accountant, you will have to have completed the ACCA course (you may be entitled to exemption on some papers with a degree in Accounting and Finance) and they can sign off Accounts to be sent to Companies House.
