• hi, thinking about buying a home but want to understand council tax a little better before i make a commitment, i have saved since i was 16 for my own home, got a full time tob and saved every penny, i am now 25 and have been looking at numerous properties to buy. I want to know for 2 adults how much a month is council tax? and what that works out as per person. i understand there are different bands but want a rough estimate of what each band is a month or annually, me and my partner are going to pay halves toward the council tax to make it easier. many thanks in advance for any help given.

  Yes, your right there are different bands for different types of property value, however, it's impossible to tell you what each band is worth, without knowing what area your in. Council tax also changes year to year after April, so these rates can go up or down. Best thing to do, is look on your council website for your local area, and they should have a list of Bands and costs for the council tax. There really is no rough estimate because like I said, it depends on your area. a band B property could be XYZ in SW London, or can be ABC in East London. So basically, not only is it calculated on the property value (the Bands) It is also taken by area to area. My council tax is £116 a month for a 2 bed flat, however on the other side of London, that could be higher or lower! Do you see? Hence why I direct you, to your local council website. Each property you look at could have a different band rate, so looking on the council website will give you a rough estimate of how much it will be. Hope that helps!?
