It depends on whether 1000 pounds a month is before tax or after tax and how expensively you shall be living. House rent can range from £400 per month without bills at least...You need to take into account living expenses though, utility bills, transport, keeping in touch with family back home and whether you have other family to support. Since you said "campus" I assume you are talking about student accommodation. In many cities this is available for less than £400 a month, for example down to £300 for a small self-contained flat in Leeds. You could save more by sharing a larger house with others. £12,000 a year would make you well-off by student standards, though not compared to working non-students. It is perfectly possible to live on this in most cities, though London might be difficult to manage on this budget. Edit: On 1000 a month after deductions you should be able to live well in most cities.
