What form do i need to fill to claim tax back on my pension?

    Your question is not clear. Are you asking about tax relief on pension contributions, or do you receive a pension with tax deducted? In either case, the relevant box being completed on your next Tax Return will get you the credit you want. But usually tax relief is already given at source on all pension contributions now. If you are asking how to get a pension payment gross, if it is a pension by virtue of employment (Schedule E), you can ask tax office by letter to give all your personal tax-free allowance there first. If it is a pension to which you have contributed by virtue of your self-employment (otherwise Purchased Life Annuity and it comes under Schedule D), you can only get it gross if you are not liable to tax for the year, in which case you complete form R89 and send to pension payer, or if a joint annuity form R86. You cannot choose to have it paid gross. You will have to wait until your next Tax Return is processed to get any refund.

I would have thought if you were self employed then your accountant would handle all that when he did your end of year tax returns and signed them off. Other than that you would have to ring the Tax Office you come under and they will send you the right one. Knowing them they probably have about 10 different ones! And you know how stroppy they get if you fill the wrong one in.

If you are self employed, then you self assess and a claim for relief for pension contributions is included in your self assessment.

If you are Self Employed, you would NOT HAVE PAID ANY TAX on your Pension Contributions :-)
