• Instead of Selling a French property, should we set up a International/UK sweepstakes/lottery? We own a property in the South of France, we have been planning to sell for a long time to fund our retirement, the property has an estimated value of 400,000 euros roughly and is absolutely beautiful, everyone who visits is instantly wowed, it is situated in a very desirable part of France which has a thriving rental market. My question is, instead of selling, how hard would it be to set up and market a loterry selling tickets for a chance to win this property? As the property market is slightly down we thought this may be a preferable (and more profitable) way to 'sell' it. What are your thoughts, and what would the difficulties be in running a UK lottery on a French property, would there be any tax ramifications or hurdles?

  It has been done, it is complex and expensive to do and very very dangerous. If you offer the property as a prize, that prize must be given. So for example say you need to sell 4000 tickets at 100 euro each to break even and only 10 tickets are sold by the closing date. Somebody is going to get the property as promised for 100 euro but you will only get 1000 euro, less costs and expenses. Not a good idea.
