I have left my job , my employers want me to pay back all training costs inc vat plus all my gross wages?

are they trying it on with me? should i owe them my gross wages for the time i was training and the vat on the cost of the course. i signed a contract with an ex manager to agree to pay back money for the course if ileft before 1 year. i have also been working without a contract of employment.

I would refuse to pay it! After all you had no Contract of Employment to begin with, you could claim that your ex manager made you sign the training contract 'under duress' Your employer cannot legally claim all your gross wages back, that really is taking the p**s, I suggest they are on dodgy ground trying to claim the training costs and know this so thought if they asked you to repay your wages too, you would agree to pay the training so you thought you got off lightly so to speak! You didn't say what your reasons were for leaving. If they were due to any form of discrimination/harrassment, then I would tell them you want a good reference and your 'training' funds forgotten aboutor you will fimle a counter claim against them! I suggest you see a solicitor for advice or at least visit the Citizens Advice Bureau and see what they recommend. Good luck, I hope you get his sorted xx

You might have to pay back any training costs incurred by the company particularly if you signed a contract agreeing to but paying them back your wages? I can't see that, your wages are what you earned while you worked and that is done now.....they can't exactly give you your time back.
