How long do I have to wait for my final job seeker allowance?

Job seeker allowance ?? and other questions.?

  • hi everyone. i have few questions. i have applied for job seeker allowance yesterday and they said they will phone me tomorrow to ask me all the details (account number, etc.) and i want to ask if you know how long does it take to get the first payment? days, weeks or months? and also i want to ask you if there are any other benefits i could be claiming? im 19 and i am looking for work, also today i have applied for a full time course in college, it will be 4 days a week and they asked me if i have job seeker allowance or any other benefit, and i havent, so i have to pay full amout of money for the course 1670 pounds a year, and if i had job seeker allowance i would have to pay only 20 pounds. thats why im asking how long does it take to get the first payment. they told me that i have a month to get the JSA and if i dont i will have to pay that 1670 pounds. thx in advance for any help.

  • Answer:

It takes about 2 weeks to process your claim, and about the same before you receive a payment. As to your college application. If you are in full time education of more than 16 hours a week, you won't be able to claim JSA. If it's less than 16 hours a week, on your college application say that you're claiming JSA. Which you will be after your interview tomorrow. If you don't receive a payment in 2 weeks you can ask for an ' interim payment ', You are entitled to ask for that, and it takes a day to process and they give you a Giro. Best of luck with it all. it takes a couple of weeks to get yr first payment thru but u get confimration of yr entitlement before that if u cant get the JSA then maybe u r entitled to income support. if u get eithe r of these benefits u could be entitled to housing benefit and/or council tax benefit but if ur a student u dont pay council tax anyway, also u could get free prescriptions, dental and opticians if ur awarded either benefit automatically. if u dont get them u can still apply if ur on a low income.
