Should I fill up the W-8Ben form?

How to fill out a P45 form?

  • Can anyone help me to fill out a P45 form?? I know that I do not fill it out but I need to know how to fill out for the college course that I am currently doing. I need to fill a P45 form for a make up company & pretend that I am doing the payroll books. I have no idea how to fill it out. Can anyone please help me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Obviously all details will have to be fictitious! The instructions say the whole frm should be completed in block capital letters. To start will be the employer's reference. Format 111/123456, although number of second series of digits may vary. The first bit relates to number of tax office. You will need a National Insurance number. That is in the format AB123456A. I think the employee's name section is clear enough, as is the box for date of birth. Again make up something for payroll reference. Small businesses don't use payroll references anyway. If you have a family member with a payroll reference, ask what it is to see an example. Those numbers come in many different formats. The UK tax year goes from 6th April to 5th April. The leaving details for wages and period will depend on the date of leaving, and how often employee paid. Each tax month ends on 5th of the month. For example, 5th May is month 1, 5th October is month 6. 13th April would be week 1, 20th April week 2, and so on throughout the year. If you are doing payroll books, you will have to extract when employee leaves, so may not be able to make up anything different. Again, the pay and tax (box 8) should tie in with last payday. If, for example, employee leaves in month 10 (5th February) the pay and tax would be a lot more than if he left in month 2, say date of leaving was mid-month, 20th May. I am assuming you are not getting involved with student loans at this stage, and employee has not died. Also employee not on week or month 1 code number. If he was, you would complete box 7 instead of 8 for pay and tax. Employee's private address, and employer's name and address shouldn't give you any problems. If you go into http://www.hmrc.gov.uk , then put forms into search engine, try P45, at the bottom it will refer you to Employer helpbook E13 Day to day payroll. I think you will find that helpful.
