How to ship things from the UK?

How would I ship my stuff to the UK without it costing THOUSANDS?

  • I'm always talking about possibly moving to the UK. But the thing that always holds me back is the stuff that I own. I have things that I would NEVER wanna get rid of. Such as my DVDs, video games, CDs etc. (yes, I know that DVDs and video games won't play in different regions without converters and stuff). I have so much crap that it's not even funny. I know that shipping one box at a time would cost a red fortune. I don't live anywhere near the ocean, so I don't, know how I could even ship by sea? All of this confusion keeps me stranded here. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to own ANYTHING!! : ( And btw, I had no idea what category to put this under?

    It might help if we knew where you wanted to ship from...as in is it in Europe or America, in the EU or outside. Personally I have driven car loads across Europe, a rental van and my father even drove a double decker bus from the UK to Portugal. If I would jump at the chance to do it again, I am sure there are hundreds of other people who would like to do it too. From further afield customs gets more complicated and using a shipping agent to organize a courier or container might save you money in the long run.

International cargo freight shipping. It would have to be in a shared shipping container. You do not need to live near the ocean ,you need to find a freight forwarder . Their are companies like Box Brothers who can arrange dock to dock or door to door service. A great resource is the British embassy they can help you, as will in filling out customs and duty and taxes documents. Look for a company that can consolidate your shipment into the cargo container, this could be done from anywhere in the United States.Your best bet is start with the British embassy.
