Should you get taxed if you are a full time student?

Full time student....Will i get taxed for my second job?

  • Basically i have had a weekend part time job which is 10hours and the pay rate is £5.30per hour , however i will be starting my second job next week and i will be working 3 days a week (8hours per day) and getting roughly the same pay. I am a full time student at uni and did not get taxed on my first job so i was wondering whether i will be taxed for the second job or not?

  • Answer:

Jolene is 100% wrong. Student status does not impact your tax liability. First you must decide which job is your main employment. I assume the weekend job will continue and, personally, I would keep that as main. For the second job on the P46 tick box C - taxed at a flat 20% but this ensures you do not get a bill later. Once both jobs are running get the employer ref - 3 digit number / and another short string - for both employments. Pay slips in hand phone the contact centre and ask about getting your allowances split - nice people will sort you out quick. Overpaid tax will be returned in pay.
