    The Answerer above is correct - the official average wage is £24,000. Now, clearly this is skewed by the amount of people who earn very high salaries, so a more realistic figure is in the vicinity of £18,000-19,000.

Totally agree with Cari - the official figure is around £25k. But I suppose if you take out all earners over, say, £200k pa, then the figure is probably nearer £18k pa.
