When you sign off the dole, do you get a P45?

Tax credits, what happens when I lose my job and sign on the dole?

  • Hi I get £110 a week in tax cradits and child tax credits as a single parent. I have just been laid off so will I still get the same £110 a week or will I now just get dole money £70 a week? or do I get both? How does it work? 10 points best answer

  • Answer:

No you won't because : A: your circumstances and income have changed and B: WORKING tax credits are for those in work. You will still get child tax credits and child benefit and will be able to claim housing benefit and council tax benefit, but those benefits can affect how much JSA you get. Your best bet is to sign on straight away (however, bare in mind ANY redundancy money will affect when you get JSA money) and ask the advisor's about claiming other help.

you will get child tax credit and jsa/is, if you were getting working tax credit you need to inform them you are not longer working and they will stop it

Confused Girl

You need to sign on and you will get jsa for yourself. You will also need to tell the tax credits and they will stop what you get now and give you child tax credits for the kids. Also if you claim any housing or council tax benefit you will need to tell them your change of circumstances. Get the names of anyone you speak to and make a note of the time you speak to them. All govt depts and local authorities are notorious for 'not having received that information'.
