How to advertise my items on ebay?

How do i come off about needing to pay tax on ebay items?

  • I advertised a car under my username on Ebay for a friend as he needed to sale it for his wedding funds. He has now asked me to advertise his motorbike as well. I'm concerned that my high sales on my account may need to have taxes paid on them to the government? I can prove these items have been advertised for a friend and I have no financial gain from the sales. Is my concerns unfounded?

You only pay tax if you are trading (buying items at low cost and re selling them on making a profit) IF these are second hand items you are selling, you don't pay tax. IF you are getting any income related benefits however and the sales are making more than £3,000, these payments will show up on your bank statements, so as long as you can prove where the money is going to, you will be fine. Tax wise, nothing to worry about as you are selling second hand, not trading and not a business.

What's the point?

Let's say the tax man queried it (on suspicion that you were a motor trader). Er, I sold a car for my friend Joe, here is the money coming in on Ebay and here is the money going out to Joe. Same for the bike.
