Is child benifit and tax credit the same?

Child Benifit, Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit?

• I have all the forms filled out ready to send off, but I am missing the child benifit number on my child/working tax credit form... Will it matter if I leave it blank and send it all off at the same time or do I have to send the child benifit off first and wait until I get the number back to then send off the child/working tax credit?

  You have to wait I am afraid, if you don't give them your child benefit number they will send you the tax credits form back and tell you to resend once you have the child benefit number. Child benefit are usually the quickest of the benefit agencies to process claim and send you your award letter. Tax credits will also back date till the date on your claim form so you won't lose money just will ahve to wait longer to get the money. I made that mistake and it ended up taking longer to get anything back. I only had to wait about 10 days for child benefit to send me my award letter so I would wait, otherwise Tax credits start losing forms or they get lost in the post on there way back to you etc.
