What Is LMI Customs Couriers?

Do UK customs always put a label on charged items?

  • Hi, the reason I ask this question is I had an item delivered from fedex a few weeks ago. There wasn't one of those green labels customs stick to the box with a breakdown of the charges. A week later I received a bill from fedex for £14.29. £4.29 vat and £10 Advancement fee. I wrote to fedex explaining that the package did not have a customs label on and I required proof that Customs had charged the VAT or an address for the customs service in question so that I could write to them and query it. They wrote back with retoric explaining what customs charges are about, but did not address the absence of the customs label nor offer proof the VAT had been paid. It also seems odd to me that the parcel would be delivered prior to my paying the charges, usually parcels are held until customs charges are paid. Anyway if anyone knows the answer, would appreciate it. I have no intention of paying the £10 advancement charge either way, as it is disproportionate to the amount advanced. I will pay the VAT if someone confirms that Customs do not always put a charge label on the parcel.

  • Answer:

IDK but I would suggest ringing FedEx. Speak sweetly to them and ask why you've been charged so much. They'll burble on about VAT and advancement fees: so then ask them to supply receipts for same. If they don't, don't pay - after all you've got the parcel and it'll cost them more to sue you than it cost to deliver it.
