522L W Tax Code, am I in the right code ?
-
Hi, I'm a foreign student and because of my visa I can work only 20 hours per week. I got a job, my first job in the UK and I don't know anything about tax codes, invoices, timesheets, etc. The main point is this, through an recruitment agency an Umbrella company contacted me because the agency told me that as a contract employer I had to use an umbrella company in order to get my money, is that true? This company putted me in a 522L W tax code is it the right code for me? What another taxes do I have to pay? Could I change this company to another? because I think they are taking more money than I think If anyone could give me an personalised help I'll really appreciate.

Answer:
522 sounds like the correct code, this allows you to earn £5225 a year before you pay tax, thats about £100 a week

The answer depends on what country you have come from, when you entered the Uk and how long you are likely to be here for. EDIT: It all depends on whether you will be resident for tax purposes in the UK. If you are going to be in the UK for a complete tax year, then you will be and will then be due tax free allowances. You should go to www.hmrc.gov.uk and search for a form P86. Print it off and send it to the tax office which deals with your tax - the agency which pays you should give you the name and address. Also, make sure you have completed a form P46 which the agency should give you. If you dont get a reply from the tax office within a month, ring them

Snap. Same tax code as me. Can't help regarding umbrella company sorry, as I don't understand. But, surely there is nothing to stop you from looking for another job, although you will probably be on the same tax code.
