Can i still claim jsa if i earn £85 a week?

I work under 16 hours a week and I don't get taxed can i still claim JSA?

  • So I started the job on Tuesday and totally forgot to tell the Job Centre about it, I'm only doing 9 hours a week and the pay is around £5 an hour, I found out I dont get Taxed from the Job, because I dont get taxed would this affect my JSA at all? will I have to sign off? I'm from the UK btw. Thanks

  • Answer:

Depends on how much money you make from those 9 hours. Someone might be working only 9 hours but being paid £50 an hour :)) You need to tell the Job Centre right away, and if your job pays minimum wage, you may be able to carry on signing onto JSA, but your JSA payments will be lower. In some cases, because the wages pay too much, you have to sign off from JSA, but it really does depend, so you need to talk to the job centre. They can also suggest other benefit support, like Working Tax credits if you have a child (for a single childless person to get Working Tax credits, you need to work 35 hours a week and be over 25) So this is why you should speak to them about it. Congrats on the job, even if it is part time! :))

Tax is not relevant. Tell the jobcentre straight away and you can possiblly get a reduced benefit. Good luck.
