How do I calculate my tax refund?

How to calculate the value of my tax refund this employment?

  • I want to know how I calculate the value of my tax refund. I've been on the wrong tax code for sometime due to the fact I had more than one job and my current employer didn't change my code correctly for some months meaning I was being taxed at the BR rate of 20% on all my earnings. I am due a tax refund and have received some back in my most recent payslip. How do I calculate how much I'll receive back in total? I've searched online for calculators but can only find yearly calculators rather than one to calculate my tax per period.

  • Answer:

It is more likely than not that you have now had your in year refund. The employer will only have returned tax if they got a notice from HMRC, HMRC would only issue a cumulative code with pay and tax if they have the full information for the year. Did you receive a "notice of coding"? If so what code and pay/tax was on it? If you did not receive a notice of coding then your address is wrong and you need t owrite to HMRC and tell them your address and ask for a repeat notice.

As tax is based on yearly income that's the only Calculator you can get Tax period is from April 1st - March 31st of the following year

It is not your employers job to determine how much to take out of your check for withholding. In the US it is based on the W-4 form you fill-in. If your withholding was wrong, it is because you gave the wrong information.
