Can Self Assessment Tax Be Paid Monthly?

Do the NHS pension contributions paid by employer need to be shown on the self-assessment tax return?

  • I already submitted a similar question, but I need some more clarification now. I have a client who is a doctor working for NHS and does some private work. She is being paying NHS pension contribution throughout of the year. I'm doing now her tax return and am not sure if I have to record these pension contributions on the tax return or not? It seems I'm getting confused messages. I spoke to HMRC and they said it depends if it was coming out of the GROSS payment or from the NET. If the pension contributions came out of the NET pay then I should show them otherwise I don't have to do it. Someone told me that even if the pension contrib. were deducted from the GROSS pay I still needed to show it on the tax return. Is there anyone who knows what exactly I need to do and if I have to show them on the tax return where exactly to show them (I think there are 4 boxes where they could go)? Thank you for your help. You need to clarify this. Pension contributions that are deducted from her salary as an NHS employee do not go anywhere near her tax return. This is because they are deducted before tax is worked out, and no further relief is due. Pension contributions that are deducted from payments made to her as self employed doctor (does she do out of hours or locum work?) need to be included. Her accounts should show the total amount paid to her (before you deduct superannuation), and a claim for the pension contributions should be made in the "allowances" section of the return. It will be headed "contributions paid gross (retirement annuity relief)". But you can only claim the amounts paid by the NHS in respect of her self employment. With respect, should you really have any clients if you need to come here for answers? Doctors superannuation is unusual because self employed don't normally have superannuation, but a competent agent should know where to find the correct answer.
