How can I find out what tax code I'm on?

My tax code is Ot W1 and im paying tax but i dont earn enough to pay tax what should i do?

  • im 17 and have just started part time work at pc world however ive now had two pay slips and had tax deducted from both when i shouldnt have done my employer has sent off a P46 form. my current tax code is Ot W1 , what should i do?

    It's probably an emergency tax code! You will probably get it back but ring the tax office if your still in doubt :)

No P46 so the system has marked the employment as secondary and coded it (correctly) as 0T X. Get the HMRC phone number from direct.gov.uk. Have a payslip and your National Insurance Number to hand and call in. They will re-code after checking a few details and overpaid tax will be returned through your wages. Life lesson - do the paper work. A P46 NOW will not remove the indicator on your record, second life lesson - do the paper work first.

Employer needs to phone HMRC and ask for your correct code. You will then get a refund. Maybe taking a while for the P46 to go through the system.UK
