Hello Deepthi, The pay system in UK is similar to yours, you will be paid your salary at the end of each month £1416.67. From that gross amount you will have tax and National Insurance deducted by your employer so you will be left with a net salary of £1,160 every month. Now comes the interesting bit, rents are very high in the UK so you are going to pay approx £600 per month on rents and then travelling to work will cost you a fortune because tube and bus travel is very expensive here and then you will have to consider the actual food and drinks you will have to buy to survive. Don't forget that we have a very cold climate so heating up your flat or room will also cost you a fortune. In short if you think that the salary of £17,000 will be sufficient for you to live on, pay all of your expenses here and save enough to send some back to your parents in India you are sadly mistaken. You will be struggling to survive on that salary and will find it really difficult to make ends meet. Also UK employers are not like your Indian ones, they are super nasty as are staff in most work places so you better be ready to come into very gossipy and political work places where you might be racially discriminated against because people in the UK hate immigrants (because they blame immigrants instead of our stupid government for the high unemployment here). So please do consider all of the above before you take steps to move here.

Next the offerer of the job will tell you that you need to arrange the visa. For a small fee (payable up front) you can havr the visa, oh, no , a small glitch - another arrangement fee, insurance. Scam alert. £17'000 is not a big salary, now what makes you so very employable that they will sponsor your visa in a low paid job? This smells - low earnings but offered to a citizen of India. Please be aware that there are no charges for a visa.

Depends what job. Very likely this is for the year - otherwise if it was monthly pay with no experience you would be extremely fortunate or the victim of a scam (which seems more likely). Am sure you can look at HMRC website to find out about tax system - I could not be bothered to do this for you because it is a very dry topic.
I would agree with General Knowledge. £17000 is a very low salary. If you take £1160 as your monthly "take home" pay after all taxes are deducted, I would estimate a typical breakdown of bills as follows (assuming you're in a 1 bedroom appartment in Greater London): Electricity + Gas £75 Council tax £90 Water £20 Rent £450 Telephone £30 ------------------------------------ Total £665 This leaves you with £495 a month for everything else (transport, food, clothing, any household goods you need to buy, entertainment, and sending money home to India, if that is your plan). You're not going to have much of a life on that level of salary.

Are you sure this is not a Scam. Unskilled workers are not allowed into the UK unless they are from the EU. Have they asked you for money for a Visa. It will paid by Western Union or Moneygram. This will then go to Nigeria as there is NO job. UK

£17,000 per month, paid in equal monthly instalments in arrears. See www.listentotaxman.com for how much will be deducted each month for tax and employee's National Insurance.
