When do I claim back tax in the UK?

Australian trying to claim back a UK tax refund?

  • I lived and worked in the UK, specifically London, from July 2010 - December 2011. I am now trying to obtain a tax refund for my earnings there. I need to know how I go about doing this. I have my P45 from my employer and P60 from tax year 2010-11. I have read that I will need to complete a P85. Is this accurate? Are there any other forms I need to complete? Also, is it possible that I am owed a refund for the tax year 2010-11 as I was not working for the whole tax year? I would like to fill in these forms myself instead of using a tax agency as I have noticed their commissions can be quite high. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

  • Answer:

All an agency does is fill in a P85 and send it in - but they get the rebate. Download and fill in a P85. Make sure your contact details are right. Include the P45 and P60 (take photocopies for your records). Processing is under two weeks now - simple.
