Should I cash in the investment I have in an offshore fund when I move back to England?

I have some money in an offshore fund held jointly with my husband. He is staying abroad and I am returning to England. If I withdraw my part of the money and put it into a saving account will I pay tax on the whole amount or only on the interest earned? Is it illegal to leave the money offshore when I m ove to England? Will I be taxed on the profit only, or on the whole amount? I'd be very grateful for some advice as I haven't been able to find any online and need to decide before I move in a couple of months.
