How to dial a number from Canada to the UK?

65 in May, born in UK, live in Canada, lost my N I number. How can I claim my old age pension?

  • Answer:

How long have you been resident in Canada? You can only claim a British state retirement pension if you have paid National Insurance contributions. You may be entitled to some pension if you haven't paid contributions for the full period required for a maximum one, but have paid some years. Accident of British birth alone confers no entitlement.

Go to the Pension Service website http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/contactus/home.asp and let them know you want to claim a state pension. They will trace your NI number.

You won't be entitled to it if you're not living in the UK

depending on how long you have lived in Canada, you may not be entitled to any pension, if you haven't made regular contributions, which must be in whole years.

You're not entitled to any unless you've paid I think about 44 years of taxes and N.I. contributions. There are people here in alot of trouble with their non-existence pension.

I thought you had to pay National Insurance and be resident in the UK in order to claim Old Age Pension :) Take care you, Lulu x

Write to the pensions office in Newcastle, explain your circumstances and get a forecast. You can claim your UK pension in any country, though which country does make a difference. In an EU or EEA country, you would get the UK pension as if you lived in the UK. Every time the UK pension is increased you would get the new higher pension. For most countries outside this area you never get a rise. Whatever the level your pension is today is fixed permanently, so over the coming years its value will be reduced by inflation. You won't get a full pension, you need 44 full years of contributions. But you could get something if you had less than 44.

There's a lot rubbish answers on here by a lot of young kids who don't know their asses from their elbows. The law changed a few years ago, so Brits living in Canada CAN claim their pensions.. There's a link above which you should follow, good luck.
