i have been working at this place for 3 weeks and have been paying emergency tax its my first job so i have no idea about sorting tax out can any one help please

Answer:
Your inland revenue should sort it out automatically - once they receive either a P45 (issued by a previous employer - not relevant for you) or a P46 (notice to IR that a new employee has joined the company without a P45). Based on either of these forms, the Inland Revenue will issue your employers with a new tax code that will reflect your true tax situation. Your employers will then reflect this on their records and any tax due or tax to be paid back will happen through your employers. All the best.

if its your first job, and you havent paid tax before then you should get a repayment of any tax overpaid automatically, without you having to do anything. It usually takes the revenue around 4..8 weeks to supply a tax code to your employers. if you havent heard anything after 8 weeks Id chase the revenuw (find out which is the tax office dealing with your tax - your employer should be able to tell you), and write a letter to them (pointless ringing!) detailing when you started, include you NI number etc.....

You need to complete a P46 and hand in to your employer. They need to send this off to the tax Office who will sort out you tax and refund you automatically

If this is your first job and you have never worked befoere you need to complete a P46 and getting your new employer to send it to their local tax office. You should be on a week1/month1 code until the tax office send you a tax code which will mean you probably won't pay tax for a while as you havent worked for half the year. You need your national insurance number for the form.
