  • If I travelled for work, had my hotel paid for by my company and a flat per diem paid to me (tax exempt) of $25 a day, and the government per diem rate for the city I stayed in was $66 a day can I claim the difference? If yes, do I subtract 25 from 66 and then take 50% (20.50/day) or take 33 and subtract 25 and claim the $8/day difference?

  • Answer:

if you say the company paid your hotel bills I don't see that you can claim anything the per diem $25/day must be for your meals and if you are paying more than that, you might claim the excess if you have receipts
