Whats happing with my tax refund?
-
I filed my taxes on the 17th of January. I got accepted a few days later. I called the IRS on Tuesday the 31st to check the status of my refund and they said that I will get a deposit on the 3rd. I checked and it said I would have a deposit on the 3rd. I do have an offset of $195.46 for back state taxes i owe. I checked with the Treausry Offset Program and it said that an offset occured for my federal payment for 2/3/12 in the amount of $195.46 Now the website is saying "Your tax return has been received and is being processed. If you file a complete and accurate tax return, your refund will be issued: within six weeks of the received date. I called the IRS and they said the same as the website. So i called the Treasury Offset Program hotline and its say a offset of $195.46 has been applied to you Delinquent Debt on of 2/3/12 does that mean that the Treasury Offset Program received the money i owed ? and also when do anyone think i will receive the rest of my refund ? My refund without the debt total was $3500

Answer:
this means that your refund has been sent to your bank, you should show it in your bank account in the next day or so.

It means you should have already recieved it we had a dd date of 2/6 and thats when we recieved our money
And what account holder number did you use on your income tax return for the DD purpose when you filled out and filed your income tax return for processing at that time? It would NOW be up to the account number holder that you did use for the DD to go into for this purpose on your 1040 income tax return. So once it does get SENT OUT then your next contact to find out where the amount is would be the account holder number that you used for this purpose because after SENT OUT means it is in the pipeline to your this account holder and they would have make the amount be made available to you after that time and this process could add a few more days before you will get refund amount in your hands. Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 02/07/2012

This is from personal experience with this this year. We too had an offset for back taxes owed. We filed on the 13th of January, were accepted on the 14th of January, had the "...before the 31st" date until the 29th when it went to "...within six weeks". A call to the IRS proved that they'd taken what we owed from last year and told us our new amount, but also told us we had to wait an additional 3-4 weeks to get the remainder. That was last week. We called again this week and are being told almost the same...wait 2-3 weeks. This is day 22 of waiting since we filed and were accepted. In the past, it never took any longer and this year the wait is simply rediculous. We still have no deposit date, no change on wmr, just waiting...

Yes, that does mean that the money has been applied to your offset and it is cleared up. The big question ... did you also file a state return? If you did, it is very possible that the offset was deducted from your state return if it was an applicable state debt also, and state is processing faster than federal this year. IF, of course, you did not file a state return, then it's just a waiting game for the IRS to release your money. I filed and was accepted on the 25th and I have never received anything from the IRS other than the very first generic "by February 14th" message. This is a very long, ridiculous wait this year.
