How do you add tax to things?

CT State Law for exchange the item in any store? TAX?

  • Hi, I have question regarding Exchange. I bought the furniture few year back. I do have the insurance for it. I got little damage on it so I went to the store for exchange. Here it was like that...I spent $2200 without tax...add 6% tax will be extra $132...When they offer me exchange they told me I shouldn't get my tax back so I can only do the exchange for $2200...State takes the tax...so they gave me $2200 credit....Now I can buy like $3000 stuff ..I can use that$2200 credit towards it... Here is the things,,,,,I don't understand....WHen I buy other stuff Should I have to pay tax for $3000 or $3000-$2200 = $800... They charge me tax for $3000 instead of $800 dollars...Should any one know about CT law...Because I have the credit for exchange $2200...But i bought for $3000 so Should I pay the tax for whole thing or rest of the money left(800)... Answer will be appreciate it...Thanks for the help....please advice me

  • Answer:

Since your return was made after the 90-day exemption period, the sales tax is fully earned by the state. Since this is not an even exchange, you must pay sales tax on the full price of the new item. See CT law linked below:
