Tax forms for a part-time high school job?

Does unemployment (EDD in California) find out whether you attended school by verifying your tax information?

  • I am currently filing my taxes for this last year (2010) that are due tomorrow, Monday April 18th, and I have a question about what information to put on them. I have been receiving unemployment income through California (EDD Office) and I need to know whether or not they will verify through my tax returns that I am about to file whether or not I went to school this last year. I can't remember whether I properly checked the box saying I started school on their weekly claim forms. I still could have worked full time and did actively look for a job though. I paid quite a bit in tuition and will receive a big credit back from taxes if I am able to put down that information down on my taxes. I just don't know if the Unemployment (EDD is the office here in California) will verify my tax information and see that I went to school? Does anybody know!?! Let me know ASAP! Dane

  • Answer:

EDD doesnt see your tax return. Usually going to school makes you ineligible for UI. Once they do find out they will ask for the monies back plus interest and penalties.
