Has anyone ever used a Tax Advocate?

How long does it take to process injured spouse tax return using taxpayers advocate?

  • I'm just seeing how efficient using a taxpayers advocate is when used with efiling a tax return with form 8379: injured spouse form. It usually takes 11 wks to process when efiled at the same time, which is what I did. They were accepted on 1/26/2012. I called tas today n they said someone would call me back within 3-5 business days. I wanna know if anyone else has experience with the tas and how long it took to get their refund expedited after they called. Thanks!

  • Answer:

The taxpayer advocate only gets involved if something goes wrong. You are a long way from that.

Just because some one calls you back within 3-5 days doesn't mean you get your refund any faster.

Judy

With injured spouse form it can take minimum 8 weeks for you to get your refund from the IRS.

Luz A

So, you are at week 8 of an 11 week process. The advocate usually doesn't get involved until week 14. If you claimed economic hardship, you need to be prepared to send in notices that your utilities are about to be shut off.
