Can I apply for TANF?

Looking to see if tanf can find out if you have filed taxes?

  • im on the tanf program and wanting to no if i filed taxes can they find out if i did or do they have any means to no if i did or not?

  • Answer:

The state and the IRS share information. Whether or not you file, the state can see if you had wages or 1099-Misc forms issued in your name. If you have been working "cash" jobs and plan to file and claim the income (which if you actually made the money and can prove it, you are required to do), yes the state will see your tax return. If the information doesn't match what your application says you made, you can be arrested for theft.

Yes. They will find out. Don't you think the government checks the social security numbers of people on assistance to make sure they are honest? Shameful that the government has to waste money on making sure people are honest about needing welfare.
