Does anyone know if we the taxpayers are going to get a stimulus check?

Does anyone know what you can do if you did not receive your stimulus check?

  • I filed my taxes eary on in March. It's now July 30, 2008 and I have not received my stimulus check. I am going nuts! I received the first letter that said I may or may not be receiving one. But never received the second one that indicates it will arrive within 2-3 weeks. I tried the tracking system on the IRS website and it had no information on me. When you call the phone number it says the call volume is too high and cannot take my call. My accountant and a rep from H&R Block said I definately qualify for the stimulus check. Isn't there something I can do?

  • Answer:

You can call the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) at 1-877-777-4778. They are an independent agency of the Treasury Department that is charged with resolving problems for tax payers. I had a problem getting assigned a CAF Number which is required to work on audits and the such. The IRS folks gave me the run around for a year. I called the TAS and they told me over the phone what the problems was (an IRS error) and they sent me my number in three days.

The IRS has a toll free number on it's web site. Call them to check your eligibility or to trace the check..........

the first letter does not guarantee that you'll get a rebate. If you never received a second letter, chances are that you don't qualify for the rebate. Get your 2007 federal return out and run the numbers through the rebate calculator on the IRS website.

Good luck. I didnt get one, I dont have kids and I dont owe the governmened anything. BUT, I filed injured spouse because of my hubby and low and behold, he owed some child support. Even though we pay it. So we didnt get one. As far as I am concerned, the gov't can shove those checks up their rear ends. Sorry I didnt answer your question, but it feels so good to vent. :) Hope you get yours.

The checks are sent in order based on when you filed and the last two digits of your SSN. I would keep trying to call the IRS and possibly call your accountant. They say it might take them until September to get them all out though. Good Luck!

You have to call the IRS and stick out the long wait. It's the way it is. We've waited 1/2 hour on the line for them. If you're patient you will get to talk to them.

The IRS has a form and a phone number to inquire about your Rebate check. http://www.irs.gov/irs/article/0,,id=177937,00.html

Are you current in all your tax filings? Have you filed all your tax returns from 2002 thru 2006? Call IRS at 1-800-829-1954; 1-800-829-1040; 1-800-829-0922; or 1-800-829-0582 ext. 726. The reason you can't thru is because taxpayers are calling IRS when the rebate has not been received the rebate in the date they were expecting it. Making it hard for the taxpayers whose rebate are truly late. You could go by your local IRS office for assistance they should be able to let you know why you haven't received it.
