What is the largest amount of money you can donate per year without having a receipt?Like 2church or homesless

  • just did my taxes and need to find a way to bring how much I owe the federal government down. I know I have gone to the church and given in the plate. But I am not sure how much I can claim without having a receipt. As well as I was wondering if you can claim a portion of your computer if you use it for continuing education and to do reports and presentations for your job?

  • Answer:

According to the IRS you need documentation for all charitable contributions, even those under $250. You should have one of the following documents for each contribution: a. cancelled check(s); b. receipt or letter from the charitable organization; c. credit card receipt; d. other reliable written record. See pages 16 & 17 of IRS Publication 526. You can claim a deduction for a contribution of $250 or more only if you have an acknowledgement of your contribution from the charitable organization or payroll deduction records.

You should really speak to a tax consultant about that. It's only going to give you back about 10% if you're lucky.

YOu need a receipt for donations of $250 or more. You should keep written records for all donations.
