  • Can someone please help me with a F.A.S.F.A problem?? It has to do with taxes!! Please help :D!? Okay so I did the F.A.S.F.A thing, and they said I'm all covered except I need to adjust some things. So in the application I put that it's only me mother, my sister and I living at our household - Which, keep in mind is definitely do. My mom doesn't work at the moment, and she didn't do her taxes because of that.. So we had to fill in that fasfa application early January. Two days ago, my step father (that doesn't live with us for special reasons) said that he made his taxes using MY social security number, along with my sisters. Since I'm almost 18 they told him that they cannot give him money from my social security number, but because hes using my security number, that they aren't taking any money away. So my question is that should I include the fact that my step father made his taxes using my social security number? Like if at the school they would pull up my social security number, would it show that he made his taxes using my ss? I don't want to get in any trouble, so I'm just wondering if it's important or not.. Please help, I must turn this in soon in order to get financial aid and go to college. Thank you for your time!! He doesn't live with us.. and apparently he is going to give us like 500 dollars, well at least to me? (maybe even less...) I really just don't know what to do.. I don't want anyone getting into trouble cause of me...

  • Answer:

he apparently is claiming you and possibly your siblings on his return so he gets a bigger refund since he is not eligible to claim you, you not living in his household or he providing more than 50% of your support, he is filing a fraudulent tax return to defraud the gov't all you can do for financial help is report what they ask you for, you have probably no visible support and there are three in the household
