Anyone else get the REAL reason we've gotten 1201 code and 4464c Letter from the IRS?
-
Ok, I e-filed January 14th, was accepted January 16th, and was told to expect my refund by January 25th, 2011. Well, it is now February 27th, 2011 and still no refund. I received a 4464C letter from the IRS telling me my refund is being held, and not to do anything except wait... for 45 days... OMG! So, here's my question: It was a simple 1040EZ, two dependents, filed head of household and getting back 5K. Everything was done electronically, even putting my w2 information in was done online. I did claim the EIC, Child Tax Credit and Making Work Pay Credit.. I've read all kinds of reasons why I would get this letter, and all kinds of reasons why I have an error code 1201, including the fact that TurboTax didn't send over 13000 people's direct deposit information information over to the IRS with the returns, and the IRS people I've talked to once a week every week since 2/2 (When I got the 4464C) don't have any information either.. Any tax professionals please help!??! Thank you so much for your sincere help and answers.. 10 points to the best one!! Thank you! PS --- has anyone with this situation received their refund and if so, how long did it take after the 45 day wait to receive it?

Answer:
It likely means that your eligibility for EIC or for claiming those kids is being questioned. You might be asked to prove you're eligible. Are they your kids? Did the kids live with you, or with their other parent? If you are eligible for everything you claimed, you'll get your money once it's all resolved.

Well same exact thing happened to me. I was accepted on January 22nd and was to expect my refund on Feb 4th but still nothing. I received the 4464C letter and it was dated 2/10. I have tried calling the IRS and they cannot tell me anything. Not even what they are reviewing. I filed single and claimed EIC, Making Work Pay Credit, and American Hope Education credit. I did my taxes through HR Block online. I am not sure what the problem is but Im getting very annoyed by the situation. I wish they would just tell me what information they are going to need because I heard if they request information then they have another 45 days to look at it once you send them the information. It sounds to me like it could be a never ending process. I would like to know how long it took people to get their refund when this happened as well.
