Haha £150, that aint nothing!!! I went out on the beers and lost my clio keys, didnt have spares cause i lost those too! Well the nearst renault garage was 25 miles away, after having paid £145 for a new key (which Fitted the car) i was unable to start it as the key needs to be programmed to the car. so i had to have it towed to the garage for it to be programmed which was another £75, and £35 for labour per hour. Unfortunatly they couldnt programme it, even tho they had the proper equipment, so they wanted £1200 for a new imobilisor and CPU!!!!!! I couldnt handle paying them that much so i had to have a tow back home another £75 and ended up selling the car on ebay for £250 even tho the car was worth £1500. I really lost out on that, an had to cut my losses. £330 down the swannie and a half decent car that went for scrap hope the same dosent apply to ya selfs. I now got meself a new Renault Megane..................Will i ever learn!!!! Leroy

yes hes 100% correct unless the cars stolen LOL then youll have to get a key from the dealers as the key is chipped to the car and although you can get a key cut it will only open the doors it will not start the engine

Dealer part only I'm afraid as it is encrypted with your cars chassis number. Once they have the key they have to present it to the immobiliser system via there diagnostic equipment, this reads the transponder in the key to ensure it is correctly encrypted. If it is the diagnostic equipment gives the technician and encrypted code which they have to enter into a security code system. This system will then give the technician a code to enable the new key to be coded to the car. if you have lost the key why not see if your insurance (house or car insurance) company will pay for it Although i think you will find that renault keys are quite cheap compared to other manufacturers.

Dealer replacement only

Only from a Renault dealer. The car's immobiliser will need to be programmed to recognise the new key, and only a dealer can do that (that is about half the cost). For security reasons, Renault does not allow its dealers to reprogramme keys that they have not supplied. See http://www.meganeownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3044
