What ascii character would sort before the dot character?

Why Yahoo has restriction of minimum 4 character after the dot in Yahoo id.?

  • Currently we are not able to create Yahoo id with less than 4 characters after the dot. There is no such restriction in the other email sites like gmail, hotmail, etc. Can you please let me know why Yahoo has imposed such restriction. I believe, Yahoo may be aware that many user might want to have id with less than 4 charaters after the dot. Also many people have 3 letter names. So it would be helpful to all Yahoo users if such restrictions are removed and Yahoo permits it's users to create id with less than 4 characters after the dot. Is there any such plan in cards for Yahoo. If so, when that restriction would be removed.

  • Answer:

There is probably no likelihood that Yahoo will change this requirement unless there is a groundswell of support for such a change on the Suggestion Boards. You have expressed the need so clearly, with reasons, that it is a good one to post. suggestions.yahoo.com It's likely that their reasons included avoiding any potential conflicts with the '.***' endings for websites, like .com..net, .org
