    Being a top contributor has nothing to do with points or the level you are on, the badge is all about contribution to a category/categories. You need to find a category that you like (and know a lot about) and answer plenty of questions in that category, plus you need to receive about 15% (just a guess as no one knows the correct amount) of best answers. The badge will appear (without notification) on a Monday morning and should you stop contributing in your chosen category, then it will disappear on another Monday morning.

It's really no big deal. Your level or number of points is immaterial. Yahoo has a secret complicated formula involving percentages and best answers to arrive at how someone receives the designation. There are lots of rumours as to what that percentage is but in fact, only YA knows for sure and they aren't telling. One day you log in and surprise you are a TC. The best way to earn it is to concentrate on answering in up to three categories where you might have some knowledge. if you don't keep your percentage up you can lose the designation.There are no special privileges.
