When will Yahoo please reduce the sizes of the annoying banner ads on its homepage?
-
I want to start by saying that I am a huge Yahoo fan! I find their e-mail service and searching to be among the best ever, and I have used Yahoo as my search engine for over a decade. My problem is the oversized banner ads on Yahoo's homepage. Some do not slow down my computer at all. (I have a fast computer and Internet connection.) However, in the last two months a Blockbuster Video ad on Yahoo's homepage has reduced my computer to a near standstill. It is so bad that I get a non-responding message and had to send an error report to Microsoft. This is in using IE 8. I had to go to Firefox 3 to use AdBlock Plus to get rid of the Blockbuster ad nightmare, and my computer whizzes along just fine when that ad is not there. A GI Joe movie ad, is also producing slightly less annoyance with its browser slowdown. I have submitted negative ad feedback to Yahoo about the Blockbuster Ad. Last month or so, Yahoo was using the same ad, and it did the same thing to my computer with the slowdown. I would encourage others to please send negative feedback for any banner ads that slow down your computer, because they are too big or have too much animation in them. It's not fair for companies to be showing home movies that slow up your system, making browsing so bad that you can't go to the next page because of some large advertisement on your home page! I realize that there is the issue of Yahoo needing to make revenue, but I would ask that they please test these banner ads on the home page in the labs before releasing them to the general public computers. The ads should be as small as possible, with as little moving animation as possible. While pictures may be worth a thousand words, it should not take 1000 minutes for a computer to recover because a banner ad is too big. Please get that Blockbuster Ad off your homepage, and the GI Joe movie ad as well! I cannot believe how slow they have made my system. I am using Firefox now just to type this! Jeff

Answer:
I agree with you, you would never know we have DSl high speed internet service, these ads really do slow it to a crawl and stand still. I feel like I'm paying just for ads. You can return to the original homepage if you like. Look for About Yahoo, click under it Return to the Classic homepage, or if you want the original to stay, then clear the browser cache of cookies and temp files, THEN RESTART the computer, if you don't restart then it won't stay, then use this link. http://www.yahoo.com I doubt very much that Yahoo will do anything about the ads. I get some that fly across the screen,or a car drives across it. A good place to put this message would be on the Forum. It's listed under the Category List.
