How can I remove the advertisement from my home page?

Ooooh...tough to do. Since Yahoo! and other free internet sites/providers give you space and mail and all the other good stuff, it comes with a price... "There's no such thing as a free lunch". Their services are free to you, because companies pay the internet providers big bucks to be posted on their site, hopefully to lure customers to click/link to their advertisement to make the sale. It's like 'free' commercial television. You get commercials. But that doesn't explain cable...we still get commercials...go figure...

You can't. The advertisements we see all over Yahoo! are their main source of income.

Short answer: you can't! Because the advertisement is the reason you can use (almost all) Yahoo! services for free! Someone has to pay for all this generosity, don't you think?

The advert is there to stay, unfortunately. Still it is in keeping with the rest of the "improved" homepage - which is also rubbish. Check out the mini picture by the headline news item and guess what the story is about. In the last 10 days we have been treated to 3 noses, some sky, a bit of a tree and a wall. What is that all about? The financial service will tell you that a share has moved by (say) 35 pence, but when you import the data into excel, it fails to indicate whether that is 35p up or 35p down - how useful is that. And when did my Notepad and TV listings go??? We are making rapid progress back the the Stone Age. John H
