Where are Yahoo profiles?
-
I've posted this before and I still do not have an answer. The "best" answer in the other question is ridiculous and makes numerous assumptions that are not true. The "best answer" is absolutely ridiculous. It used to be when I clicked on a yahoo-id in a member list in a group membership, or tried to view the profile of someone who sent me email, I'd get some information back about the person - name, age, location, etc. These days, 90% of the time, I get a page that says "Profile not found". What's going on? Has Yahoo eliminated profiles? One of the reasons this is important to me is because I'm running an adult group and I want to make sure that the people joining are adults and not minors - I want to see their ages. Location, if it's in their profile, is also useful. But, these days, I can't get any information about people - I just get "not found". What's going on? Several of the people whose profiles I cannot view SWEAR that they have info in their profiles and their profiles are NOT hidden. None of the URLs that used to work such as: http://people.yahoo.com http://members.yahoo.com http://profiles.yahoo.com http://pulse.yahoo.com work. I still get a "Profile not found" error. The "best answer" in the previous question makes the assumption that the group is about porn and/or pedaling porn. This is a FALSE assumption. There are *many* "adult" topics that might be discussed in an adult group that has NOTHING to do with porn! For one example: STDs. I'm not asking for full name, location or other such information. I'm asking for age. That is appropriate for ANY adult group discussing any adult topic. I ask that the profile be "visible" so that everyone can see that there are no minors. This is not unreasonable. However members say their profiles ARE visible and DO have the age in them... I just can't view them. When I try, I get a "Profile not found" error. This is NOTHING to do with people being ashamed of being in an adult group or trying to hide their identities. They claim the profiles are openly viewable but they are not. There is a difference between "not found" and "hidden" profiles. Even using the links above, many of these profiles show up as "not found". That normally means there IS NO profile despite the fact that these people claim they have a profile, and that their profiles are visible to everyone. My question is still not answered. And, Yahoo Help has refused to respond.

Answer:
The correct URL is: http://profiles.yahoo.com However, in some cases, you will get the "not found" message, as noted. This can happen, I believe, for a number of reasons. One is valid here on Yahoo Answers, I think - in cases where people have signed up here from their Google account or through Facebook, NOT from their Yahoo email address. Apparently, that can now be done, and since they do not HAVE a Yahoo email address, they do not have Yahoo profile page. http://yanswersblog.com/index.php/archives/2011/01/20/the-answers-community-is-about-to-get-even-bigger/ Another issue may be with instances where people signed up to Yahoo email through an intermediary ISP, such as AT&T DSL or SBC or Rogers (in Canada). When such users drop the intermediary ISP, it causes problems with their Yahoo accounts. For instance, their Yahoo Answers account will show up as 'suspended' after a certain time if we click their avatar - but it will still be active and they can use it to ask and answer with. There are many instances where people come here complaining about this issue, and the fact that as a result they can't update their avatar or name here. Finally, there is the simple 'glitch' issue. Yahoo has them. A LOT. You can try clearing your cache files and restarting your computer, to clear out anything on YOUR end that might be triggering them. Yahoo tends to corrupt cache files on a regular basis, causing endless troubles here. But sometimes it is a true Yahoo glitch - and nothing we can do can fix it.
