What Blog sites are very similar to Yahoo 360?
-
I need to start a blog, but I want it to be very similar to Yahoo 360. I have another blog at Blogger, but I don’t see it provides the privacy settings or the variety of search features that Yahoo 360 does. I don’t know if to continue using Yahoo 360 because since Yahoo started saying it was going to eliminate it, I heard lots of users complaining about all the glitches. I actually had an old blog post there completely disappear as I was editing it, and I wouldn’t want that to keep happening. I really need a blog to document an important event in my life. It would be nice to have a blog where specific friends could read, but the general public could not. I know I can do this at Myspace, but what other blogs like this are there out there. I would also like a site that has search features to find others with the same interests, because at Blogger that feature is not there. And a place where people wouldn’t see that I am online would be nice as well. Thank you!

Answer:
Blogger is a blogging service. Yahoo! 360 is a social-networking service that features a blog. A social-networking service involves a lot more features than a blog and has a focus on connecting with other profiles. The aim is to connect with people you know and/or meet new people. Many people have said that Multiply is very similar to Yahoo! 360 and the service does have a transfer function that will move your 360 blogs to Multiply (with varied success). However, a distinctive aspect of Yahoo! 360 is its linkage to other Yahoo! services. Losing your blog post is common glitch. Save your blog in a text (Notepad) document before trying to post. But it's just one glitch of many (see http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=858 for more information on 360 glitches ). Yahoo! 360 has been a "beta" service (basically meaning in testing mode) since 2005. In October 2007, Yahoo announced that they would be moving Yahoo! 360 to a new platform - the universal profile system (i.e. Yahoo! Profile - http://profiles.yahoo.com ). There has been no official announcement regarding an exact close date for Yahoo! 360 though. See blogs at http://blog.360.yahoo.com/product_360 and http://www.yprofileblog.com for the latest information regarding the situation. The Yahoo! 360 team/product blog is also accessible via the "Yahoo! 360 News" link in the upper right corner of your 360 space. With that said, the 360 transition to the Yahoo! Profile began on October 16, 2008. You can set up your profile there and incorporate your 360 personal profile image, friends, profile & lists information (see http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-1qCkw2Ehaak.hdNZkEAzDrpa4Q--?cq=1&p=55558 and http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-1qCkw2Ehaak.hdNZkEAzDrpa4Q--?cq=1&p=51234 ). The blogging functions are still missing on the Y!Profile though, but the Yahoo has stated that they (and the actual blog contents) would be transferred somehow. See the links in these blog entries for more details on Yahoo's overall direction ("Open Strategy") and UPS: http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=1560 , http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=1414 , http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=1168 , and http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=1236 . Now, if you want to move completely away from Yahoo!, then you can investigate the following social-networking services that have blogging capabilities: MySpace (http://myspace.com ), Facebook (http://facebook.com ), Multiply (http://multiply.com ), Xanga (http://xanga.com ), Windows Live Spaces (http://spaces.live.com/ )
