How do I get rid of a XBOX 360 profile?

How to get rid of everything on your xbox 360 profile but keep the gamertag name?

  • I would really like to get rid of everything from my current gamertag/profile name and start a fresh one but with the same name. I know that you currently cannot get rid of any achievements or anything like that from the gamertag and i really don't care about any saved game or any content. All i want to do is create a profile (a fresh and clean one) but keep the same name as the current one that i have right now? By the way my current gamertag is a online one. Is there any way i can do that? For example maybe using the option to pay microsoft to rename my current profile so then the gamertag name becomes available and i can quickly create another online profile by the same name? Because if i try creating it right now i can't because i already have one name the same way and i really would love to keep it that way. Do you think that would work?. I really appreciate the help and thank you so much for taking the time to read this!!!

UPDATE: Nah, just make a new one similar to it if you want to clear those out? Not sure why you'd want to start from scratch with the same Gamertag, kinda defeats the purpose of having one. I mean put a number on the end of yours like Gamertag1 or Gamertag714 or something if you want to totally start from scratch, if you have 2 or less Gamertags on the box when you do that you'll get a free month trial of Live Gold anyways! ORIGINAL: Sadly MS won't lift a finger to help you here but there is a solution! Delete the Gamertag off the 360, making sure you pick the option to delete all the Stats and Items, which essentially kills it all off. Then Recover Gamertag instead of making a new Profile and make sure you know what signup information/e-mail, etc. you used so you can get it back. That will give you a 'clean' version the way you're describing it, it'd still have the Achievements and stuff but none of the other items since they were erased. You may still have to go to Memory under Console Settings and delete some stuff there like Saved Games and items taking up space that didn't get erased because they're shared among any Gamertags on the box. Strange, but true. MS allows you to change the Gamertag once and has some sort of fee with that, but it won't do the same thing as you're asking here.
