How to detect compatibility mode in IE and actual version?

What is causing "Webpage has expired" page to be displayed in IE 8?

  • I am seeing a symptom in IE 8 where clicking a submit button on a particular web page is causing a "Webpage has expired" message. This is *not* a situation involving the back button, or a situation where the same form content is being posted twice. Also, the page has no 'expires' header, and no 'cache' related headers. So I know those vlaues are not involved. Can anyone tell me specifically what drives seeing this "Webpage has expired"? What I mean is, under the hood, exactly what is IE comparing to determine if this message is shown? It's obviously not the 'expires' header value compared to 'now' because this page specifies no value for 'expires'. Can anyone help? I have tried running IE in the 'IE 7' mode, and this does no good. As well as running it in quarks mode, and compatibility mode. Thanks----

Also, there was some type of I.E. 8 update available today (via Windows Update). If you are trying to run I.E. in different modes, you should try disabling extensions/add-ons one at a time to see if one is causing the issue. Other computer maintenance steps that might help... Clear your browser's cookies and cache. Completely clear your computer's temporary Internet files (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260897 and http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm ). Update your computer via Windows Update. Do manufacturer updates. Defrag. Lastly, if it's an issue regarding expired certificates (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/About-certificate-errors )... For example, if you're typing the address as https://example.com, try changing it to https://www.example.com. This is a website-related problem, and can't be corrected in Internet Explorer. If you're getting errors on a website you've visited successfully, contact the website to report the problem."
