Yahoo 360 set up questions...?

  • i just opened a Yahoo account and was setting up my 360 site. it looked good when i finished the 1st day of setting it up but when i went back the next day to finish it, the 1st pic (the main of the Personal Photos) was not there and wouldn't allow it to be reloaded. i d/l'ed pic's to Flickr with no prob but they wont show on my 360 page to be seen by the public. is there a magic trick i need to do to get it to work right?!?

  • Answer:

There is no magic trick for most 360 problems. Yahoo! 360 is a beta (i.e. testing - although not actively anymore) service and some features do not work correctly. It's been this way since 2005. So, glitches/problems were likely and using the service is a risk for users. Modules have become more glitchy since Yahoo! announced that they would no longer fix 360-related bugs starting October 2007, as they prepared to transition the service to a universal profile system. This Yahoo! Profile (http://profiles.yahoo.com ) has started as of October 16, 2008, but the 360 transition to that platform hasn't been completed yet. PERSONAL PHOTOS MODULE: Make sure that the image that you are using is a JPEG formatted photo (with .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe extension) under 5MB that's saved to your hard drive. You may want to try re-saving the image in Microsoft Paint, as sometimes that helps Yahoo recognize the image. Some people recommend that you keep trying to add the image and/or wait for the image to miraculously appear (which may work). You can try adding the image to different spots and adding the image through different web browsers. If you happen to have a red x in a spot, you can delete a remaining picture to possible get rid of that empty placeholder. But really, I recommend that you leave the module completely alone because it can cause other serious problems on your page like it making your Top Page very long - which may or may not be fixable. You can also lose more spots in the module. This has been a buggy module for a long time. So, I'm warning you that messing with the module too much is a risky method. Also, please note the 360 community guidelines (http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/guidelines/guidelines-08.html ) regarding mature content. The personal profile area is a public area, which can't be changed from that status. Adult images must be placed ONLY in the blog under mature content controls. IF you have been reported for adult images in that module or in the 360 background, then Yahoo could have removed those images. This inadvertently could have resulted in those spots being lost as well. OR it could just be glitch. Either way, you can't do much about it. FLICKR: The "Share Photos" module is basically busted for most people. It typically never displays or stops updating. Flickr blames the photostream problem on Y!360, but had been working with them on fixing it. Yet the work on that issue stopped after Y!360 announced plans to move to an universal profile system. Read more about it here: http://flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/56845/ . You can always add a link to your Flickr photostream anywhere on 360 that allows a URL, such as your blast, blog roll, blog, and "home page" field in the Profile Information module. See http://www.flickr.com/help/sharing/#2182 and http://www.flickr.com/account/ for more about the Flickr web address. If you set the permission for the Flickr area in "Share Photos" module to something other than "Just Me (Private)" and the photostream miraculously shows up, the link on the module will lead visitors to the photostream. You can add a Flickr RSS URL to your Feeds module, but note that the module hardly updates either. Really, try placing multiple images in your blog via drag & drop (http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-1qCkw2Ehaak.hdNZkEAzDrpa4Q--?cq=1&p=4294 ) or by inserting HTML code. If you want to go through the trouble, you make a video slideshow: http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=1446 . You can place images in your background too. See http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/profile/profile-21.html . For more details about many Yahoo! 360 glitches, see http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=858 .
