How To FIX XBOX 360 RED RING OF DEATH?

  • One day i turned my XBOX 360 on and Three RED RIGHTS ON THE RING ON LIGHTS come on (lights 1 ,3,4), i had no AV Output so i didn't know that to do. i rang Microsoft they said $199 because i was out of warranty i said no way so i wanted to know how to fix it myself? After the Red lights occurred i left my XBOX ON for about 30minutes it got pretty hot than i turned it on again and it worked well for a while it ran good for about 5 minutes than the screen froze and some wired static sound was output from the tv speakers? I PERFORMED secondary diagnostics and go error code 0102 and 0021 when i did it the second time?? i have heard around that this is caused by the soldering joints under the cpu and gpu snaping and messing up the electrical circuit and to fix this we have to do something with the X - CLAMPS? NOW i want to know exactly what is going on because i dont want to go removing the CPU or heatsinks for no reason? So how can i fix it and what is required to fix it?? PLEASE ASAP also if i need to remove the heatsink i know i need to reapply some thermal grease THE problem is i dont know where to get some if anyone knows where i can buy some ARTIC SILVER please also say. THANKYOU IN ADVANCE

Ok, first it's not that bad of a job to do yourself. Artic Silver you can find on ebay for around $5-$10. you will also need a T8 and T10 torx bit and a drill with a 13/64 drill bit and a 8 M5 machine screws that can be found at any hardware store. Open the case up and remove the motherboard by disconnecting the 2 X-clamps holding the heat sinks onto the chips. take your drill and drill out those 8 holes, replace with the M5 screws and tighten it all down real good. its kinda late so i cant give a more detailed explanation of the repair. http://advancedxboxrepair.com

Ok, yeah your freaking out kinda like my boyfriend did too. He got the red ring of death and he just never did anything with it for the longest time because he was afraid that it was going to cost a lot of money. Just go to i think, microsoft online or xbox online... (Sorry, i don't remember what site it was exactly!) and go through the information to have a box sent to you. There were several prices on things but as soon as my boyfriend clicked the red ring of death, it didn't cost anything. Because this is a major screw up and has happened to so many people, it's completely free. Don't listen to the whole warranty thing. Just go to the website, follow the instructions for a malfunction and have a box sent to you. It will take about 2 to 3 weeks before you get it back but i think my boyfriend got his back within a week to a week and a half. I apologize for not knowing the exact website though but just look around maybe for one of them. There is a website you can go to specifically for xbox problems but once again, i don't know it... Sorry! I hope i was some help and just get the box and send it in to them and they will fix it right up for you. Good luck!

Daniel Y it sounds like your in the same position a lot of people (including myself) eventually find themselves in. I found this website http://www.360profix.com and did what it said, and got one of the repair guides that show you how to repair your system. The guide itself, the most recommended one is about $30. I think it's called the Xbox 360 Red Light Fix Pro Gamer Edition. That site will tell you all about it and everything you need to know. Once you get the guide just follow what the guide says, it'll show you in video tutorial exactly what to do and you'll be able to permanently repair your system. It's probably a good thing you chose not to go to Microsoft; a lot of people end up getting screwed that way. Good Luck My friend
