How do I get started DJing (step by step!)?

• I want to get started DJing cheap but high quality. can anyone make a guide or show me a guide of EXACTLY what to do to get started. A list of exactly what and where to buy the tables and mixers and speakers and everything I need. I also want to know where to get the music. I would like to have one that I can plug my laptop into and do "virtual" records with mp3s I have on my computer or using CDs that I have. I want a guide on how to set up and how to get started. please help :)

  Sounds like your best bet would be to start with a djing kit - something like the Numark Total DJ in a Box (I'll link to its Amazon page below), BUT the problem is that that's not going to be cheap. To get things as cheaply as possible, you're going to have to go with used stuff. Great deals can be found on Craigslist. Also, pawn shops also end up with mixers a lot of the time. A third way to go about it would be to ask a local dj where in your area has the best deals on stuff... this dj will also be able to help you out on getting a feel for starting out too (maybe even pass you some of his/her old vinyl if you become friends down the line). Anyway, if it's just hobby stuff, go with used equipment. Now, for technique stuff, there's a free online program that takes you through the basic and really gives you a good start on understanding not just your equipment, but the art of djing itself (it's set up by an Aussie dj).
