Blog Followers and how do i get them?

i am thinking of starting a blog, however i am wondering how i will get followers and really, what is the point? I really don't think that I have that much interesting to say. But, is it like an online diary? Looking for a little feedback. I have a friend that has a great blog with 3000 hits, it seems that she just talks about her daily life. Is that what it is all about? Can anyone recommend any blogs to give me ideas? Can anyone give me some good blog sites?
