  • Answer:

You can move some content (including blogs) to the Yahoo! Profile, move your blogs to another blog service (like Wordpress - http://wordpress.com ), and/or move blogs to your own domain. You should move or save your content by Sunday, July 12, 2009. The Yahoo! Profile is not the "new 360"; it's an upgraded version of the Yahoo! Members Profile. Read more about the Yahoo! Profile and how its part of Yahoo's new "Open Strategy" here: http://ycorpblog.com/2008/10/16/your-social-control-panel and http://developer.yahoo.net/blog/archives/2008/04/introducing_the_1.html . Some features from 360 won't be included; some may be expanded; and some are totally different. If you want to give feedback to Yahoo! about Y!Profile features, post comments on the Yahoo! Profile blog at http://www.yprofileblog.com/ . The Yahoo! Profile is in development, so there are changes to come. Here are some steps you can take: 1) Setup your Yahoo! Profile: Go to http://profiles.yahoo.com and complete the setup process if you haven't already. See http://help.yahoo.com/tutorials/prof/index.html for a tutorial. Throughout this setup process, information from your 360 Lists, Settings, Friends, and Blog area will be transferred over. In terms of the Friends and Blog, you will have to do some manual work. 2) Your 360 Friends will be intermingled amongst all the people that had been added to your Yahoo! Contacts (http://contacts.yahoo.com - i.e. Yahoo! Address Book) under your Yahoo! Profile Contacts tab (http://profiles.yahoo.com/contacts.php ). You'll have to find pick out the friends that are from 360 and invite them to the new Y!Profile so that they can be upgraded from a "Contact" to a "Connection". See http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/profiles/connections/index.html for your invitation options. 3) As stated above, you have some choices in terms of where you can move your Yahoo! 360 blog. YAHOO! PROFILE: Note that 360 blogs that were designated as "mature content" at any time will not be transferred to the Y!Profile. The 360 Blog Download Tool is available via this page: http://download.360.yahoo.com . Double-check your e-mail address, then click the "Move my blog to My Profile" button on the left of the top blue box. Make sure to set your permissions for the blog when you're done with the transfer, if you are moving it to the Yahoo! Profile. Click the "Settings" link in the upper right corner of the Y!Profile. Also, your blogs will likely be missing name identifiers for the blog comments. OTHER BLOG SERVICES: At the bottom of the 360 Blog Download Page is a box that applies to moving to other blog services. After double-checking the e-mail address, click the "Prepare my Download" button. This function will allow you to download your entire blog. [NOTE: The first time I tried this it didn't work. I didn't get the e-mail after 24 hours. I came back again the next day, clicked the button, made sure to click on the link to return me to my 360 space on the next page, and then I received the e-mail in a few minutes as promised.] You can use this zip file of your blog contents, which contains a text file of the HTML version of all your blogs and folder of images, to move to another site. Blogs that had been marked as mature content are included. You would have to set up an account for that blog site and then try moving the blog. The zip file works for blog services that have a Movable Type platform.Otherwise, you may need to use the service's import tool (like in the case of Multiply - http://multiply.com/ ), utilize a workaround like with Blogger (http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/articles/blog-converter-blogspot.php ), or copy and paste content from the text file into the HTML view of a blog entry & re-add images. Wordpress will be added to the Y!Profile as an "update" option at some point. Blog-related services already available to show updates on the Y!Profile are Blogger, Bloglines,TravelPod, Tumblr, Vox, and Xanga. 4) Messages in the Yahoo! 360 Mailbox will NOT be transferred to the Y!Profile. See http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/shutdown/360shutdown-20.html . You can copy and paste them into a blog entry along with Top Page comments, if you want others to see those messages. Other than that, you can only copy and paste them into a computer word-processing file for your personal viewing. Also, from the e-mail announcing the closing: "... you will NOT be able to take the following with you to your new profile: your 360° inbox, testimonials, friend categories, local reviews, RSS feeds, tags, or custom theme." As for photos, you can save them all to your computer (by right-clicking to choose a "Save" option and/or using the blog download page to get a zip file of blog photos) and re-upload them to the Yahoo! Profile (in the Profile card or blog area). If you have a Flickr photostream, you can set up the update feature for it. See http://www.yprofileblog.com/blog/2009/03/05/profiles-updates-member-since-and-flickr-integration . If you are talking about photo albums in the "Share Photos" module, those are no longer stored in Yahoo's system since Yahoo! Photos closed in 2007.
