360 Feature Change: Did you know that the PUBLIC setting isn't so public anymore?
-
UH OH! NEW FEATURE ALERT! LOL! It looks like 360 has found a way to get people hooked and then get MORE people hooked by changing what setting a feature to "Public" means. Now "PUBLIC" seems to mean anyone who has a 360 page but is NOT a connected friend. Before, it was anyone in the world, whether they had a 360 page or not. Now, more people will need to get 360 pages in order to actively comment or communicate via 360. I wish they would announce these things. Looks like they did adjust the wording here (I'm not sure - haven't been on this 360 that long): http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/permissions/permissions-05.html . It says, "For communication settings, any Yahoo! 360° member will be able to communicate with you." Keep in mind that 360 is still in beta. They are trying out new things. No feature is set in stone; it is in "test" mode.

Answer:
I remember when a user had the option of permitting comments from anyone or restricting it to just 360 users in general. I personally preferred the latter as I would like the ability to respond to any comments via their 360 page. Keeping communication settings to Yahoo 360 users isn't all that unusual. I think that MySpace has a similar restriction in that one needs to have a page in order to send messages. The way that I view it is that the networking sites are not e-mail systems, but rather a community. Given that it costs nothing save a few minutes of time to create a page, I have no problem with that restriction. I certainly hope that viewing is still totally public. I have links to my 360 page on my geocaching.com profile, and I would like anyone to view my blogs on that subject. Thanks for the information.

I don't think that has changed. You've always needed to be signed into Yahoo to comment or communicate with a 360 user.

If it is as Kee said, Yahoo 360 blog is not what I want. I guess the answer is to set up a new blog with someone else.

That the settings are letting non-members comment on the 360 page. l have this happen many times. And some one from the answer page ,non-member to post a comment. And l really like it because people can see a 360 before getting a page
